((note: Given that we're told so little about Wander's history, a good chunk of this is headcanon))

Wander grew up in a small, remote village in the middle of a large forest. Everyone in the village, including Wander's parents, had dark hair either black or brown, so when Wander was born with his bright red hair, everyone saw it as a bad omen. Especially since his mother died giving birth to him. His father, a blacksmith, never saw Wander as such. He raised him with a firm but loving hand, trying to teach Wander the blacksmith trade. Though Wander seemed disinterested in such things; his father took note that once Wander did or didn't want to do something, his mind was made up, therefore he only requested Wander's help with his blacksmith duties, but did not press him to follow in his footsteps.

Wander didn't have friends growing up, as he was deemed bad luck and overall strange by many of the children and superstitious villagers. Not everyone in the village had this outlook on him, but it was enough that the rumors spread to the children to the point where they would ostracize him. Since no kids would play with him, Wander found other ways to spend his time. He would sometimes help his father with his business, or go play in the safer parts of the forest -- sometimes exploring and going further than he was supposed to and climbing the tallest trees. One day, his father asked him to deliver a leather armor set to a local hunter. Doing as told, Wander took the armor and set out to make the delivery. Upon arriving at the hunter's house, he spotted Mono sitting on the front stoop with a flower in her hand. Being thirteen and just starting to take notice of girls, Wander had found himself dumbstruck, but apparently Mono found it charming. They struck up a conversation and as it turns out, her father was the local hunter Wander was supposed to deliver the armor to. From that day forth, the two were practically inseparable. Even after the death of his father, when Wander had turned 15, she did not leave his side the entire time. She was the only person he had left, and he found himself falling madly in love with her, living solely for her.

The year Wander turned 19 had been the year his life spiraled downward. He had managed to become an apprentice at the local temple. His job was to simply guard an ancient sword along with one other guard. The job was quiet, as no one had ever dared to try stealing this weapon. However, one day while on duty, he overheard Lord Emon conversing with two other shamans, speaking of a young girl with a "cursed fate", and how they would have to sacrifice her soul before she could "cause anyone harm". Sacrifices like these were regular occurrences, and Wander had not thought much of them having never been directly involved. But then Emon mentioned the girl's name; Mono. Wander panicked and told his fellow guard he heard a strange noise, and that he was going to check it out. He ran straight to Mono's home, where he told her that they had to run away and never come back. After lots of questioning Mono finally got the truth out of Wander, in which it took a ton of convincing to get her to agree to leave her family behind and leave with Wander. However, she only agreed to leave with him the next day, as to give her one last day to spend with her family. Wander reluctantly agreed, and went back to work. In the middle of the night, Wander awakens to the sounds of screaming. He runs out the house and follows the screams in time to discover Mono being taken from her home by armed men, her parents yelling and being held back. A crowd had formed in the streets of the village, watching as Wander shouted her name repeatedly and was also being held back by a group of armed men. Mono was taken into the temple where she did not come out.

Having been put in a cell for lack of cooperation with the armored forces, Wander spent the entire night sulking and plotting. That is where he came up with his plan to get Mono back. Being an apprentice at the temple, he had heard many stories about the Forbidden Land, and how it had the power to bring back the dead. He had also heard of the ancient sword being tied into it, and so when he was released from his prison cell, he waited for nightfall when he would be on guard duty to steal the sword, Mono's lifeless body [the sacrifice had required the body of the dead to lay on a slab in the temple for a day after being killed], and his trusty horse Agro before setting out on his journey to the Forbidden lands. That is where the game begins, and where he speaks to a spirit called Dormin that tells him he must slay sixteen Colossi in order to complete the spell that will bring Mono back. Dormin warns him of a price he must pay, but Wander tells him it does not matter, and succeeds in slaying all sixteen colossi.

Unfortunately, Lord Emon was on his trail and found him when Wander is returned to the alter, in horrible shape. What he didn't know was that the "price" he paid was offering his body to become a vessel for the Dormin. Its power had been sealed away in all 16 of the Colossi, and slaying them with the sword released them into Wander. His body became corrupted by the dead; black veins showing on his skin, small horns protruding from his head, once red hair now dark. Seeing that Wander had obviously went through with the ritual and was now lost, he orders his men to kill Wander.

Canon Point: See above, right before Lord Emon's men get the chance to kill Wander. He is possessed by Dormin at this point.

Personality: Wander is hasty and stubborn. Once an idea pops into his head, he wants to act on it. There's no talking him out of it, especially if it is something important to him. He cares greatly for those close to him, and will do anything for a loved one. As it stands now, the only people Wander has ever really loved were his father and Mono, but should he ever grow to care for others he will become loyal to a fault. Growing up with no friends, Wander got used to being on his own -- even after he befriended Mono, which is why he values friends and family above all else. He is very awkward when he speaks as he isn't used to talking too much and he never had many conflicts growing up. Most of the children stayed away from him; they were afraid that if they spoke to him his "bad luck" would rub off on them. As a result, Wander doesn't know how to deal with verbal confrontations very well. If he gets into any, he'll try and diverge the conflict away by acting as if he is not bothered by it. This doesn't mean he isn't capable of getting angry. Before the possession, the only thing that truly angered Wander were attacks on the things he cared about most, or on his beliefs. Now, with Dormin's taint, he is always in pain and therefore easily snaps at others at even the slightest feeling of frustration. To others it may seem as if it's Dormin's influence that makes him cold and angry, it is actually how Wander deals with being corrupted. Dormin brings out the darkness in Wander that seemed completely absent when he was growing up.

Losing the only two people in his life left him hurt greatly. Having Dormin inside him clouds his thoughts and judgements and makes him believe that the god is going to one day take complete control, and so he feels as if he is a danger to others, therefore making him prone to pushing people away. This, however, will not stop him from caring about them. But even so, he will go as far as being completely harsh in order to prevent anyone from getting too close. In fact, the more he cares the harder he will push, even if it the result is hurt feelings. One of the things that will never change about Wander, Dormin or not, is how important love is to him. he strongly believes that where all else fails, and where a person's body limits them, love can prevail. His view was only strengthened when he, a simple apprentice with very little fighting experience, managed to slay sixteen mountainous beasts for the sake of returning a loved one to the living. He also sees that act as a defiance to the gods; his way of saying "screw you, I don't care if you're ready to take her -- I'm not ready to lose her". This gives him a very optimistic look when facing obstacles. He truly believes that love and the human will can be enough for a person to do the impossible.

Wander had been spiritual before Mono was killed, but the events following made him bitter about the gods and goddesses of his world. He is very conflicted on whether or not he believes that his red hair was a bad omen and that Mono was actually cursed. On days when he decides he doesn't believe he will scoff at his people's ideas and state how angry he is that someone died based on "ridiculous superstition". On the days he does believe, he will blame the gods for cursing such a peaceful and pure soul such as Mono. These conflicting thoughts often cause Wander to become frustrated, in which he usually ends up sulking. He does not hide his disdain for anything relating to gods, and will be very weary of anything relating to magic (only shamans and gods use magic in his world).

He is a very hard worker, though being in a lot of pain as he is now he will be forced to push himself far more than he ever did. His father brought him up on the ideal that hard work was very important. He believed him of course, but a good reason Wander always works so hard when given a task is that it always proved to be a good distraction. He could distract himself from the fact that he was isolated and lonely (before meeting Mono), that he was "cursed". Distracting himself from being possessed is nearly impossible, but instead of giving up Wander will stubbornly search for something to throw himself at, physically or mentally draining be damned.

Skills and Abilities:
Wander is a very skilled archer to the point where he could fire while on horseback. With the possession, Dormin gives him a few abilities such as manipulating shadows that can become "solid" and grab his enemies. He can also release black tendrils from his body as a form of self defense, though it merely pushes hostiles away. However, Dormin is a god and is far too strong for a human vessel, so the abilities themselves weaken him to the point where using them is almost pointless. They're only useful as a last ditch effort, for very weak enemies. Mostly, Wander would use them in an attempt to scare away anyone threatening him. Using these powers will leave him severely drained, and can actually be quite dangerous for him.

The cold rain pelted itself against Wander's face, courtesy of the heavy winds, as he climbed the remainder of the large pillar. His breath was heavy and his mind fuzzy, the only thing clear being his goal. He could feel his memories and humanity slowly slipping away, but the one thing he consistently reminded himself of was that this was something he needed to do. He once had hope that he would live past this, but that hope slowly died away with his control over the presence growing inside him the longer he spent in the Forbidden Lands.

It didn't matter, though. Right now, all that mattered was bringing her back.

When Wander pulled himself on to the ledge beside the large pillar his breath instantly hitched as he caught sight of his final obstacle. It was tall, the size of a tower -- bigger, even. But it was no tower. It was the final Colossus, and it was the only thing left between he and his love.

"Almost...Mono," he whispered softly, voice raspy but full of love and determination.

The Colossi loomed over him menacingly, despite being several yards away. It extended a long arm, clawed fingers pointing at Wander as he walked up the small ramp leading to the ruins. What was it doing, he wondered. But he very quickly got an answer as the Colossi's hand glowed a brilliant yellow. His heart nearly leapt out of his chest once he realized what was happening, quickly forcing his body to move so he could roll out of the way. A ball off yellow energy blasted the area where Wander had been standing. He had dove behind a wall tall enough to shield him from the Colossi's vision; it's glowing blue gaze.

Wander was terrified, his breath ragged and his heart beating a mile a minute. He felt stuck to the spot where he hid, his hand clutching his sword so tightly his knuckles grew white. How could he get close to that thing? Even if it was rooted to the ground, it was huge. It could cover the ground of the entire area and blast him into nothing. There was a brief moment in which he thought...what if I can't do this? He knew the answer, though; he would lose Mono forever. And that thought struck a fear in him far greater than any of the mountainous beasts he fought ever could. Life without her.

A voice echoed in his head, discouraging and feminine. It almost sounded like Mono. Discouraging. It would be just like her, to want him to forget about this whole "forbidden spell" nonsense. She once told him, perhaps having some sort of foresight into their future together, that he would eventually have to move on.

That was the most terrifying thought he had ever had.

Wander steadied his breath and shook his head. "No," he spat out defiantly. "I will take you back."

He didn't care if he would have to rip her from the grip of the gods himself; he was going to get her back. No amount of fear or pain could keep him from her. The earth shook as the Colossi fired at the wall, tiny pieces of rubble falling onto his shoulder. He released a breath he had not been aware he was holding in, jumping to his feet, sword in hand, and charged towards his final obstacle.
